ASRT Foundation supports imaging education study

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Foundation is funding a research project that will assess the role of e-modules in imaging science curricula.

Three academic medical centers will participate in the study, which will seek to determine if case-based e-modules -- computer-based educational content about 10 to 15 minutes in length -- can improve exam outcomes compared with results from students who participated in standard education methods, according to the ASRT. The e-modules typically have only one or two learning concepts and incorporate a blend of teaching and assessment tools such as video clips, direct instruction, gaming elements, and social media.

The $10,000 ASRT Foundation grant was awarded to Tanya Custer, an assistant professor and distance education coordinator at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha. The study will be conducted at UNMC, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and Rush University in Chicago.
