IDEAS study adds 3 new research efforts

The Imaging Dementia - Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) clinical study is launching three add-on efforts to expand the core research study, for which more than 18,000 people with cognitive decline will receive an amyloid PET scan.

IDEAS study participants may elect to take part in one or all of the new research studies, according to the American College of Radiology (ACR). The three efforts are as follows:

  • The Amyloid Neuroimaging and Genetics Initiative (ANGI), which will match clinical information and brain imaging data collected in the IDEAS study with genetic information obtained from more than 3,000 study participants
  • The Brain Health Registry (BHR), which will collect health, lifestyle, and cognitive data from IDEAS participants and correlate them with the amyloid PET results
  • Caregivers' Reactions and Experience (CARE) IDEAS, which will recruit and survey 3,500 pairs of IDEAS study participants and their care partners, linking PET scan, clinical report, and comprehensive Medicare claims data to survey responses

The four-year IDEAS study has now registered almost half of its expected 18,488 enrollees at 824 sites, the ACR said.
