Hitachi combines units into Hitachi Healthcare America

Hitachi Ltd. has unveiled plans to consolidate its Hitachi Aloka Medical America and Hitachi Medical Systems America subsidiaries into one entity called Hitachi Healthcare America.

The transition will go into effect on April 1, with the new entity's headquarters located in Twinsburg, OH, which currently houses Hitachi Medical Systems America. Hitachi Aloka Medical America is based in Wallingford, CT.

The Twinsburg site will continue to provide medical diagnostic imaging systems and related maintenance service and employ approximately 400 people.

Hitachi also plans to integrate its Innovation and Informatics division, which currently belongs to Hitachi America, into the soon-to-be-formed Hitachi Healthcare America. The company will target advanced medical technology and informatics, such as using radiation therapy treatment data and artificial intelligence to enhance patient treatment plans.

In a prepared statement, Yasuhiko Taniguchi, general manager of Hitachi America's healthcare division, said the company is "focused on the long-term future of Hitachi's healthcare commitment in the Americas and [is] taking deliberate, strategic actions to improve the company's overall operations while enhancing our competitive position and future growth."
