iCAD to highlight Xoft clinical results at SABCS

Computer-aided detection (CAD) developer iCAD plans to highlight at the upcoming San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) clinical results from a study on the performance of its Xoft Axxent electronic brachytherapy system.

At the meeting, presenter Dr. Alam Nisar Syed of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in Long Beach, CA, will share findings from research on the treatment of 898 patients with early-stage breast cancer using intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) with the Xoft system. Patients came from 26 hospitals in the U.S. and Portugal.

The findings showed that 90% of patients had excellent-to-good breast preservation, with low rates of high-grade adverse events and recurrences two years post-treatment with Xoft IORT, according to iCAD.
