ASRT awards research grants

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) announced that the ASRT Foundation has awarded more than $20,000 in research grants for three medical imaging and radiation therapy projects.

The winners of the 2016 fall research grants are as follows:

  • Melanie Dempsey, PhD, and co-investigator Timmerie Cohen, PhD, of Virginia Commonwealth University: First-year grant funds totaling $10,000 to begin their research project on secondary thyroid dose in total breast irradiation
  • Tracy Herrmann of the University of Cincinnati's Blue Ash College: Grant funds totaling $856 to conduct her research project on the success of African-American students in medical imaging
  • Roman Rodriguez and co-investigator Tomile Rostockyj of Baylor Scott and White - Waxahachie: Grant funds totaling $10,000 for their research project on optimizing workload levels for high-risk radiotherapy procedures

Each fall and spring, the ASRT Foundation awards grants of up to $10,000 in an effort to improve the quality and safety of patient care, the ASRT said.
