Vision RT touts data showing less harmful radiotherapy

Radiation therapy software developer Vision RT is directing attention to new clinical data on its AlignRT technology being presented at the upcoming American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Boston.

Researchers from the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of North Carolina will report that Vision RT's technology produced no radiation-induced abnormalities in blood flow to the heart in all patients for whom it was used in left-breast radiotherapy. This contrasted with results of a previous study that used a different technique on similar patients and found that 27% had heart damage, Vision RT said.

In the same session, David Gierga, PhD, from Massachusetts General Hospital will also present on the use of different techniques, including AlignRT, for reproducible breast cancer radiotherapy, according to the vendor.
