NEMA publishes interventional x-ray equipment standards

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published a report that lists important x-ray equipment attributes for interventional radiology procedures.

The free publication, "NEMA XR 31-2016 Standard Attributes on X-Ray Equipment for Interventional Procedures," was developed by NEMA's Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) division. It describes eight features that should be taken into consideration when performing risk management evaluations on existing stationary x-ray interventional equipment:

  • Dosimetric indications
  • Added filters
  • Range of air kerma rates in fluoroscopy
  • Last-image hold
  • Virtual collimation
  • Stored fluoroscopy
  • Variable pulsed fluoroscopy
  • Digital x-ray imaging device

The report is intended for manufacturers of x-ray, interventional x-ray, and fluoroscopy systems, NEMA said.
