iCAD to launch skin cancer treatment tool for Xoft

Computer-aided detection (CAD) and radiation therapy firm iCAD plans to unveil a new tool for use with its Xoft Axxent electronic brachytherapy system and its Axxent Hub cloud-based oncology software at the upcoming American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) meeting in Washington, D.C.

The new module allows Xoft Axxent to be used for nonmelanoma skin cancer treatment. Called SMART (streamlined module for advanced radiation therapy), the package improves workflow efficiency and the flexibility and security of skin electronic brachytherapy treatments, iCAD said.

The company also announced it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a proprietary, extended-life x-ray source that will reduce the cost of delivery and management of the SMART tool, according to the firm.
