South Korean digital radiography (DR) manufacturer DRGEM said it has opened a new factory and also added a new transformer for all x-ray generators it sells in the U.S.
The new 72,000-sq-ft factory in Gumi-si, South Korea, will produce 3,000 x-ray systems per year and can also produce 10,000 x-ray generators annually, according to the vendor. DRGEM also plans to open a facility in the U.S. for manufacturing and distributing its DR offerings.
In other news, DRGEM said it would begin including a redesigned high-voltage transformer in all of its x-ray generators sold in the U.S. as of December. The company implemented the new design partly in response to a patent infringement ruling in August by a U.S. Appeals Court in favor of Spanish x-ray developer Sociedad Española de Electromedicina y Calidad (Sedecal). That case has not yet been resolved, however, and a trial is set to begin in January 2016, DRGEM said.
While noting that it still believes that its previous design does not infringe upon the Sedecal patent, DRGEM said the new design clearly avoids the Sedecal patent and has advantages that significantly enhance its product line.
