Breast density reporting bill passes in Del.

Delaware has become the 23rd state to approve a breast density reporting bill.

Gov. Jack Markell signed into law legislation that requires a mammography service provider to give specific notice to a patient if she presents with dense breast tissue. The law goes into effect in 180 days.

The states of Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Washington are currently considering similar legislation.

The U.S. Congress is also mulling breast density notification legislation that would require mammography reports to include whether or not the patient has dense tissue.
