ATA tackles thyroid nodule management for children

The American Thyroid Association (ATA) has released its first guidelines for managing thyroid nodules and cancer in children.

Developed by the ATA Guidelines Task Force on Pediatric Thyroid Cancer, the new management guidelines feature recommendations for evaluating and managing thyroid nodules in children and adolescents, including the role and interpretation of ultrasound, fine-needle aspiration cytology, and managing benign nodules, according to the task force.

The document also includes recommendations for evaluating, treating, and following up children and adolescents with differentiated thyroid cancer, as well as proposals for management algorithms and separate recommendations for papillary and follicular thyroid cancer.

The guidelines are available here.
