SIR names fellows, research winners

The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) has added 23 fellows to its roster during its annual meeting in Atlanta.

The honor goes to members who have shown excellence in research, published works, teaching, and leadership within the field of interventional radiology. Fewer than 10% of SIR members are named as fellows, the society said.

Also during the meeting, SIR announced winners of the 2014 Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology Editor's Award:

  • Dr. Shin Jae Lee, of Severance Hospital in Seoul, Korea, received the award for outstanding clinical research paper: "Comparison of the efficacy of covered versus uncovered metallic stents in treating inoperable malignant common bile duct obstruction: A randomized trial."
  • Katrin Fuchs, PharmD, of the University of Geneva in Switzerland, received the award for outstanding laboratory investigation: "Drug-eluting beads loaded with antiangiogenic agents for chemoembolization: In vitro sunitinib loading, release, and in vivo pharmacokinetics in an animal model."
