Mediso launches PET/CT research scanner

Multimodal nuclear imaging firm Mediso Medical Imaging Systems has launched its new MultiScan LFER 150 PET/CT scanner, dedicated to research applications in clinical and preclinical imaging.

The large field-of-view extreme resolution (LFER) scanner features a 20-cm axial and 15-cm transaxial field-of-view, submillimeter PET resolution, and 5% sensitivity. It is designed for preclinical brain research, the company said.

Features include a detachable patient table and almost no dead space in front of the field-of-view, making the unit highly accessible, Mediso said. Also, the scanner's compact imaging head can be freely manipulated, and the configuration of its detectors enables consecutive PET and CT acquisition without moving the subject.

A dockable MobilCell exam table allows helical CT studies and PET imaging with multiple bed positions with up to 60-cm axial field-of-view, according to the company. The system is compatible with MultiCell imaging chambers for single and multiple rats and mice, rabbits, and marmosets and includes temperature control and respiratory and electrocardiogram monitoring.

The first installation of the scanner is at the Japanese RIKEN Center for Life Science Technologies, Mediso said.
