ClearData launches long-term cloud storage package

Cloud computing services provider ClearData Networks has launched a new archive created specifically to meet HIPAA requirements.

Healthcare organizations and medical research facilities create large amounts of confidential patient information each year, including patient records, lab results, and images. HIPAA requires this information to be stored for up to seven years, even though it is rarely accessed, according to ClearData.

The company's new Archive as a Service package allows healthcare organizations to archive data that can tolerate longer recovery time frames on secure, HIPAA-compliant servers through the cloud. Users can create, modify, and read data via supported file-sharing protocols, while ClearData's Smart Lock technology protects critical data from accidental, premature, or malicious alteration or deletion, the company said.

Once the per-gigabyte cost is set, it is remains the same, according to ClearData.
