Fuji debuts new Synapse Mobility, mobile DR units

Fujifilm Medical Systems USA is showcasing Synapse Mobility version 3.0 and three new mobile digital radiography (DR) systems at the RSNA 2011 meeting in Chicago.

Synapse Mobility 3.0 enables remote access to Fuji's entire line of Synapse products from Apple iOS and Android OS mobile devices, as well as Macintosh- and Windows-based PCs and laptops.

A collaboration feature new to version 3.0 will aid in real-time consultation, such as the communication among physicians, referring clinicians, and patients, using the Web browser or mobile device of their choice.

Synapse is the only mobile system that has been integrated into Fuji's Synapse PACS and Cardiovascular PACS for both imaging and reports, according to the company. It is able to display high-quality, interactive 3D medical images and provides advanced viewing capabilities, as well as zoom, window and level, and the use of maximum intensity projection and multiplanar reconstruction (MIP/MPR) just as on a clinical workstation.

At RSNA 2011, Fuji is also featuring three new works-in-progress mobile DR models: FDR Go, FDR D-Evo portable upgrade system, and FDR Go flex portable system. The digital imaging systems are designed for emergency room, operating room, and bedside use.

Each system features Fuji's Irradiation Side Sampling (ISS) advanced detector technology that improves dose efficiency compared with similar DR detectors, according to the company. It also reduces x-ray scatter and blur, resulting in sharper images.

The FDR Go is the newest addition the company's FDR line. It features an updated, compact size for operating in small places and the ability to employ any FDR D-Evo detector, including 14 x 17-inch and 17 x 17-inch gadolinium oxysulfide and 14 x 17-inch cesium iodide detectors. Image preview is possible within two seconds, and clinicians can send images wirelessly to the hospital network without leaving the patient bedside.

The FDR D-Evo portable upgrade system is the first of Fuji's new DR upgrade options for analog portable systems. It is a self-contained unit that integrates Fuji's wireless D-Evo flat-panel detector and FDX Console workstation onto an existing analog portable system.

The FDG Go flex portable system is geared for fast analog-to-digital conversions. The lightweight system consists of a wireless FDR D-Evo flat-panel detector, laptop workstation, and supporting minicomponents box.

In addition, Fuji debuted the latest versions of its Synapse 3D and Synapse RIS and TeleRIS products.

Synapse 3D 3.0 features new advanced diagnostic applications, including MR coronary analysis, MR delayed enhancement, MR brain perfusion, dental analysis, ADC map tool, and Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) and PET Response Criteria in Solid Tumors (PERCIST) for tumor tracking.

Version 6.1 for Synapse RIS and TeleRIS includes graphical dashboards that provide the ability to better monitor and manage performance in real-time; Synapse Financials for RIS, which provides a seamless option of incorporating practice management into the system; and advanced dose management features. With the new version, users can address meaningful use requirements and use improved tools to manage patient dose, the company said.
