Novarad introduces new products, partners at RSNA

RIS and PACS vendor Novarad is introducing new products and partnerships at the RSNA 2011 meeting in Chicago.

Novarad has teamed with PHS Technologies Group to integrate the company's DoseMonitor ionizing radiation dose monitoring software engine with its NovaPACS to create NovaDose dose monitoring software. It offers direct access to cumulative patient, exam, and modality dose histories from the PACS, and eliminates the need for facilities to have a separate server attached to the PACS for dose monitoring.

With NovaDose, cumulative dosages are calculated automatically, and color-coded alerts inform the referring physician about potentially excessive patient radiation dose before additional exposure occurs. Dashboard reporting also allows users to analyze procedures and modalities. In addition, by using DICOM data from NovaPACS, devices and examination procedures that no longer meet customer-determined dose specifications can be identified.

Novarad is also now offering two free apps to view NovaPACS DICOM images and radiology reports on Apple iPads.

Novarad Mobile Rad is an image reading tool that supports all imaging modalities, except mammography, for radiologists and clinical specialists who perform primary interpretation. Novarad Mobile Rad MD is geared to referring physicians to allow them to view reports and key images.

The HIPAA-compliant mobile viewers offer secure login to a NovaPACS facility and images are not stored on the iPad.

The viewers will be downloadable on Novarad.net and Apple iTunes. Novarad's Lite Viewer also has been optimized for iPad viewing.

Finally, Novarad announced that Dell has selected its NovaPACS to be integrated with Dell's Unified Clinical Archive for medical image data storage and retrieval, enabling healthcare organizations to securely manage, store, and share data needed to coordinate patient care.

Dell currently manages more than 4.5 billion diagnostic imaging objects in the cloud for U.S.-based customers.
