Konica Minolta highlights wireless DR at RSNA

Konica Minolta Medical Imaging USA unwrapped its Aero DR wireless digital radiography (DR) system at last week's 2010 RSNA meeting in Chicago.

The flat-panel detector features a cesium iodide scintillator, along with Konica's image processing technology from its Regius computed radiography (CR) system, according to the Wayne, NJ-based vendor.

The 6.3-lb Aero DR panel can be used to convert existing analog rooms to a digital suite, or it can be used as a full-room radiography package when combined with a new x-ray purchase, Konica said. The detector fits existing wall stands and bucky trays without modification, according to the vendor.

It also includes a battery design that provides for extended life and short charge cycles, Konica said. In other features, an in-room subconsole allows technologists to manage imaging parameters at the patient's side.

Aero DR's imaging console can also control Konica CR systems, the company said. Aero DR has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance and is available now in the U.S.

In other Konica RSNA developments, the firm has added offsite archive, disaster recovery, and image sharing capability to its ImagePilot service. Via a personalized information portal site called Informity, users can collaborate with referring physicians and other specialists by sharing results over the Web, Konica said.

Informity also includes remote support features such as disaster recovery, automated software updates, and virus protection. In addition, customers can view ImagePilot frequently asked questions, software release notes, and information on new software options.
