Viztek to introduce Opal-wRIS at RSNA

Imaging informatics firm Viztek in Garner, NC, will introduce Opal-wRIS, software for imaging service administration and management, at the 2010 RSNA meeting.

Opal-wRIS delivers a full range of RIS features, including scheduling, full modality worklist, dictation and transcription, automatic report distribution, and full HL7 inbound and outbound interfaces, according to the vendor.

The software includes a referring physician portal that gives authorized users the ability to directly add their patients to a radiology site's imaging schedule and view reports immediately after their completion. A women's health component delivers a range of specialized mammography features, including scheduling and automated patient reminders to reporting.

Opal-wRIS also has preloaded CPT codes and automated procedural diagnosis validation that will predict the likelihood an exam will be covered under a particular insurance policy: Once patients are scheduled for procedures, it provides automatic insurance preauthorizations.

Meanwhile, advanced modality worklist features streamline equipment scheduling and reading and reporting information flow. Upon exam completion, the application exports charges to all major billing applications, according to Viztek.

To meet legal requirements and mitigate potential risks, the new application also provides built-in exam follow-up and outcomes tracking, with detailed lists of open items and incomplete patient responses. Opal-wRIS also collects data over time and tracks outcomes by physician, technologist, and facility to provide sophisticated, automated peer review.
