SonoSite begins shipping SonoHeart echo scanner

Handheld ultrasound firm SonoSite has begun U.S. deliveries of its SonoHeart echocardiography system. SonoSite received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance on December 28 for the system, which provides users with all-digital echocardiography and with 2-D and PowerMap directional color power Doppler images, according to the Bothell, WA-based firm. Shipments of the firm's other handheld scanner, SonoSite 180, began in September 1999.
