Dell study finds increased use of cloud for healthcare

A study commissioned by Dell found that 96% of midsized healthcare organizations have either adopted or are considering using cloud computing technology.

The survey, called the Dell Global Technology Adoption Index (GTAI), also showed that most respondents from the healthcare industry are using a private cloud (43%) or a hybrid cloud model (43%), according to the vendor. The company said that 64% of respondents indicated they were very confident that their data stored in a private cloud environment were protected.

As for what healthcare organizations believed was the biggest benefit of cloud computing, 46% pointed to better allocation of IT resources, while 39% cited cost savings. In other findings, the survey identified the top three IT priorities for healthcare respondents as making IT more cost-efficient, upgrading infrastructure, and optimizing data centers, Dell said.

Customer research firm TNS conducted surveys and interviews between July 15 and September 2, 2014, with more than 2,000 IT decision-makers of midsize public and private organizations distributed across 11 regions worldwide, Dell said. The full results can be found here.
