Ky. governor signs breast density notification bill

Kentucky has become the 30th U.S. state to enact a law that mandates women be told in their mammography reports whether they have dense breast tissue.

The new law goes into effect in early July, according to the Are You Dense Advocacy group.

This is the second dense breast bill to become law this year, the group said. Colorado became the 29th state to enact a density reporting law on April 6. Iowa is awaiting action by Gov. Terry Branstad, while Nebraska has one more step before the proposal goes to Gov. Pete Ricketts.

Connecticut was the first state to make density reporting a law, in 2009.
