Hologic's revenues advance in Q1

Buoyed by growth in its Breast Health, Gyn Surgical, and molecular diagnostics businesses, women's imaging vendor Hologic posted increased revenues in its first fiscal quarter of 2017.

For the quarter (end-December 31), revenues rose 5.6% to $734 million, compared with $695.2 million in the first quarter of 2016. Based on generally accepted accounting principles, net income increased 2% to $86.5 million, compared with net income of $84 million in the same quarter of 2016.

Revenue for the Breast Health unit, which represents Hologic's largest product segment, increased 5% to $273.3 million in the first quarter, after currency adjustments. Hologic credited gains in service revenue and new product sales, including its Genius 3D digital breast tomosynthesis systems, for the positive Breast Health results.
