Hawaii breast center halts mammography program

A Hawaii breast imaging center is suspending its mammography program until it has undergone a site visit from the American College of Radiology (ACR) on October 27, according to a report published by the Hawaii Tribune Herald.

The Hilo Women's Imaging Center lost its accreditation in March before receiving provisional authorization to begin offering mammograms again in May, the paper reported. But the ACR and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration called for an onsite survey before the center's mammography program can begin again.

The center continues to offer breast ultrasound, breast MR, bone density exams, and breast biopsies, according to the Herald.
