Hologic's LaVance steps down as chairman

David LaVance Jr. has resigned as chairman of the board at women's imaging vendor Hologic.

In his place, the company has appointed Steve MacMillan, Hologic's president and CEO.

LaVance became chairman in 2011 as part of the succession plan that allowed Jack Cumming to step down as chairman to focus on his role as global strategic advisor.

In another board move, Hologic has appointed Elaine Ullian, current director and retired president and CEO of Boston Medical Center, as lead independent director. Ullian has been a member of the board since 2007.
