FDA posts alert for Calif. mammography center

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has posted an alert about possible problems with mammography quality at a California imaging center.

After deficiencies were discovered in the clinical cases submitted with the facility's accreditation renewal application, the American College of Radiology (ACR) conducted a clinical image review of mammograms performed at Coastal Diagnostic Center in Pismo Beach between February 2013 and February 2015. ACR revoked the facility's accreditation on April 10.

The FDA urges patients who received mammograms at Coastal Diagnostic Center on or after February 24, 2013, to consider having their mammograms re-evaluated at a certified Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) facility to determine if they need a repeat mammogram or additional medical follow-up.
