GE installs 1st spectral mammo in U.S.

GE Healthcare has installed its contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM) technology at the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills, CA. It is the first installation of the CESM system in the U.S.

CESM uses the same equipment as a routine mammogram to isolate lesions of concern, while hiding noncancerous tissue.

Unlike MRI, CESM is not confounded by hormone replacement or menstrual cycles, according to the company. It can also benefit patients who would suffer from claustrophobia with an MRI.
