Misonix to support Uganda spine surgery mission

For the fifth year, therapeutic ultrasound developer Misonix is supporting the Uganda Spine Surgery Mission by providing equipment for the project.

The initiative was founded in 2006 by spine surgeon Dr. Isador Lieberman of the Texas Back Institute in Plano and colleague Dr. Mark Kayanja, PhD, who is originally from Uganda. Its purpose is to offer advanced spine care to Ugandan patients.

This year's mission will include more than 40 surgical cases; participating surgeons will use Misonix's BoneScalpel device, the company said.

In other Misonix news, the company announced an exclusive agreement with SonoSpine, an international neurosurgical practice specializing in ultrasonic spine surgery. The two firms will create a joint clinical database that will support Misonix's development of new devices and SonoSpine's efforts to improve patient care, according to the firm.
