MedaPhor wins 1st U.S. contract

U.K. ultrasound training developer MedaPhor said it has won its first U.S. contract, with the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.

The University of Washington will install MedaPhor's ScanTrainer ultrasound simulation system, a training unit that provides students with a real scan experience, according to the firm.

Trainees hold a Sensable Phantom haptic device instead of a mouse as they progress through the training; ScanTrainer allows users to develop a mix of cognitive skills and eye-hand movement coordination without the need for an ultrasound machine or a patient. The system also considerably reduces the need for direct supervision by an expert, according to MedaPhor.
