Verasonics claims arbitration win against Alpinion

Research ultrasound technology developer Verasonics said an arbitrator has awarded injunctive relief and an undisclosed amount in compensatory damages in the firm's legal dispute with South Korean ultrasound company Alpinion Medical Systems.

In a binding arbitration in the state of Washington, an arbitrator ruled that Alpinion breached both nondisclosure and lease agreements with Verasonics and misappropriated Verasonics trade secrets, the vendor said. In addition to paying compensatory damages for lost profits and exemplary damages, Alpinion is enjoined from marketing or selling its E-Cube 12R research ultrasound product and any research ultrasound system derived from or based on Verasonics' trade secret information and/or confidential information supplied under the nondisclosure agreement and/or lease agreement.

Furthermore, Alpinion is enjoined from using Verasonics' trade secret information and/or confidential information supplied under the nondisclosure agreement and/or lease agreement. The injunctions are immediately effective and run for five years, Verasonics said.

Verasonics said the arbitrator has also requested additional briefing from the parties regarding preaward interest and attorneys' fees, costs, and expenses.
