IBA wins Swedish contract

Radiopharmaceutical firm Ion Beam Applications (IBA) of Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, has won a contract with a proton therapy center in Sweden.

Skandion Clinic has selected IBA for the installation of a particle therapy facility. The new center will be managed by a consortium of seven Swedish counties, representing eight university hospitals, according to IBA.

IBA will install the cyclotron, equipment for two treatment rooms, and a scanning beam nozzle for experimental purposes. The contract also includes a five-year service agreement, and amounts to between 40 million and 50 million euros ($50 million to $63 million U.S.).

The contract award is subject to public tender and a detailed review, which can take four to six months, IBA said.
