HealthSouth, Oracle digital hospital hits snag

HealthSouth and Oracle's big plans to build an all-digital hospital are being scaled back, according to an article published yesterday in the Wall Street Journal. The two firms had failed to agree on a timetable for the Birmingham, AL-based facility's development, according to the article.

Oracle said it would remain involved by providing existing software to the facility, according to the article. Also, Siemens has replaced Oracle as HealthSouth's main supplier, the story said

The ambitious project also faces a legal challenge from a lawsuit filed by Brookwood Medical Center and Baptist Health System. The suit claims that HealthSouth misled the state to win tax and regulatory exemptions that would allow it to build the hospital. The facility won't offer services that aren't already provided, and therefore, aren't needed, according to the article.
