NC healthcare system chooses Lexmark's VNA

The University of North Carolina (UNC) Health Care System has selected a package of software applications from printing firm and software developer Lexmark International for all of its locations.

UNC Health Care System will install Lexmark's vendor-neutral archive (VNA), NilRead enterprise viewer, and PACS Scan mobile applications. The healthcare system produces approximately 1.3 million DICOM studies annually, and the Lexmark VNA will function as its primary imaging workflow engine and life-cycle management system.

Visible light images, captured by UNC medical devices and smartphones with the aid of Lexmark's PACS Scan mobile software, will be archived and managed by the Lexmark VNA using the Cross-Enterprise Document Sharing (XDS) interoperability specification.

The initial Lexmark VNA implementation will include migration of 5.4 million existing medical studies, with another 6 million to be migrated by the UNC Health Care System team. These images are currently held in multiple radiology and cardiology PACS across the healthcare system's facilities.
