Montage touts length-of-stay improvements

Radiology data-mining and analytics software developer Montage Healthcare Solutions is directing attention to a presentation at its recent inaugural user meeting in Philadelphia.

During the meeting, Dr. Syed Zaidi of Radiology Assoc. of Canton (RAC) and RadHelp reported that his group teamed up with hospitalists at Aultman Hospital in Canton, OH, to decrease the length of stay for inpatients recommended for CT biopsy by three days, Montage said.

The group used Montage's Search and Analytics software to identify key performance indicators and to identify and track patients to ensure timely and appropriate follow-up care, according to the vendor. A radiology clinical coordinator uses this information to act as a care manager for patients who have positive findings on their CT studies.

The group, which has signed a comanagement agreement with Aultman Hospital for shared governance of the imaging service line, decreased the time from diagnosis to biopsy procedure order from 71 to 29 hours. In addition, the time from order to biopsy completion has been lowered from 52 to 21 hours, while the time for overall diagnosis to completion of procedure dipped from 133 to 50 hours, Montage said.

They are now using Montage's data-mining and analysis tools to improve nondisplaced hip fracture assessment in the elderly and osteoporotic patient population, as well as to enhance the analysis of CT angiography in diagnosing pulmonary embolism in the emergency department, according to the firm.
