M*Modal updates software for physician documentation

Speech recognition technology developer M*Modal has updated its M*Modal Fluency Direct speech software by adding computer-assisted physician documentation (CAPD) functionality.

The update, available now, provides real-time feedback to physicians as they dictate or type clinical documentation in electronic health record (EHR) systems. CAPD identifies the most common documentation deficiencies and automatically generates feedback for the physician. The software also asks for additional information or clarification when appropriate, M*Modal said.

CAPD can be configured to set feedback guidelines to address future documentation requirements, as well as the industry-wide transition to the new ICD-10 coding standard, the firm added.

M*Modal is demonstrating Fluency Direct with CAPD at the 2014 American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) meeting being held this week in San Diego.
