U. of Maryland launches health IT venture

The University of Maryland has announced its latest spin-off company, Analytical Informatics, which is commercializing clinical informatics software designed for use by its department of diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine.

Dr. Phil Robilotto, assistant vice president for technology transfer, made the announcement at a recent venture symposium on entrepreneurship that the University of Maryland sponsored at its Baltimore BioPark campus.

Analytical Informatics specializes in developing software tools that provide users with real-time access to clinical information assimilated from disparate, vendor-different IT systems. The company made its official debut exhibiting at the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) annual meeting held June 7-10 in Orlando, FL.

At the conference, the company demonstrated dashboards showing diverse clinical data displayed in real-time. One was a dashboard that shows the operational details for each CT and MRI scanner in the radiology department.

Christopher Meenan, research associate and director of clinical informatics for the University of Maryland Medical Center's radiology department, is co-founder and CEO of Analytical Informatics.
