Cerner's COO to retire

Paul M. Black will retire as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) of healthcare information systems provider Cerner of Kansas City, MO, effective August 31.

Black joined Cerner in 1994 as the regional vice president responsible for sales and delivery for the Kansas City territory. He also served as the lead executive for the company's two new growth areas -- Healthe Employer Services and DeviceWorks.

Vice president Bill Wing will continue to have primary responsibility for Healthe Employer Services. Vice president Bill Miller will continue to be primarily responsible for DeviceWorks.

The company is not currently planning to name a new COO.
