Report: Lexmark software unit attracting interest

Two private equity firms -- including the owner of content management software developer Hyland Software -- have submitted initial bids for Lexmark International's software division, according to a report by Bloomberg Business.

If the offer by Thoma Bravo is accepted, the equity firm would seek to combine the software division with Hyland Software, according to the article. Bloomberg Business names Vista Equity Partners as the other company interested in Lexmark's software division, which includes a number of recent imaging and healthcare IT acquisitions such as Claron Technology in January 2015, PACSGear and Acuo Technologies in 2013, and Perceptive Software in 2010.

Lexmark had initially sought a buyer for the whole company as it explored strategic alternatives, but the printing and software developer indicated last month that it was mulling over separate sales of its hardware and software businesses due to a lack of offers.
