IMRIS lands patents in Japan

Image-guided therapy developer IMRIS has been granted three intraoperative MRI technology patents by the Japanese patent office.

The patents cover control of effective MRI using a movable system; imaging coils where clarity is maintained when used while in position during x-ray use; and other components related to using both MR and x-ray imaging in the same environment, according to the vendor. These technologies are currently integrated within the Visius surgical theater's intraoperative MRI (iMRI) package.

IMRIS said it currently has one hospital customer using Visius iMRI in Japan: the University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki. A second installation is pending at Yamanashi University Hospital in Chuo.

In other patent developments, IMRIS has also recently received updated patents from administrations in Canada, the U.S., and the European Union.
