Canada to fund brain research

The Canadian government has unveiled plans to invest in neuroscience research with the creation of the Canada Brain Research Fund.

Research for brain disorders such as depression, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, and epilepsy will be included in the fund, which could reach $100 million.

The Brain Canada Foundation will raise matching funds through private donations and charitable contributions.

The funding will go toward three types of grants: For scientists with the best proposals for progressing the understanding and treatment of brain diseases, for technologies designed to share research knowledge and innovative ideas, and to educate prospective new neuroscientists for two to three years.
