GE partners with Univ. of Iowa for brain research

GE Healthcare will provide a 7-tesla MRI scanner to University of Iowa Health Care for research on brain disorders.

The scanner will be used to support the institution's research on functional brain mapping, high-resolution anatomical imaging of the brain, spectroscopy of the brain, evaluating tumor response to treatment, and cardiovascular imaging, according to GE. It will be housed in the university's new Pappajohn Institute, which is currently under construction.

The purchase of the scanner will be funded with a National Institutes of Health (NIH) high-end instrumentation grant awarded to Vincent Magnotta, PhD, in the department of radiology at University of Iowa.
