FDA OKs new MRI-conditional cochlear implant

Cochlear Limited announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared its Nucleus implants for MRI use up to 3 tesla when the implant's magnet has been removed.

Additionally, with the use of the Cochlear Nucleus implant bandage and splint kit, Nucleus implants are approved for 1.5-tesla MRI with the magnet in place.

All cochlear implants have magnets inside, the company noted. Cochlear Limited offers implants with a magnet that can be temoporarily removed, if needed.
