GE, Arterys partner on cardiac software

Software developer Arterys has partnered with GE Healthcare to launch its Arterys software that enables clinical visualization and quantification of blood flow inside the human body.

The software produces 7D data (three dimensions in space, one in time, and three in velocity direction) that results in improved diagnoses in cardiac medicine, according to the firm.

The Arterys system was launched at RSNA 2015 as part of GE's ViosWorks package, new cardiac software that reduces MRI assessment to a fraction of the time of conventional cardiac scans. ViosWorks will provide 3D cardiac anatomy, function, and flow in one free-breathing, 10-minute scan with cloud-based, real-time processing of images.

In November, Arterys and GE Healthcare entered into a partnership to include the Arterys system in new GE MRI scanners. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In addition to launching the Arterys software, the company completed a $7 million series A financing led by Emergent Medical Partners, including participation from Norwich Ventures, AME Cloud Ventures, Morado Ventures, and Asset Management Ventures. The funds will allow the company to expand its efforts in machine and deep learning for medical imaging, validate its approach, and bring its imaging software to new medical applications, the firm said.
