MRI safety certification exams finish up

The American Board of Magnetic Resonance Safety (ABMRS) on June 24 completed its first set of MR safety certification exams for more than 100 candidates.

The results will determine who achieves the status of MR medical director/physician (MRMD) and MR safety officer (MRSO). Only licensed physicians can sit for the MRMD MRI safety test.

The board plans to hold testing for certification as an MR safety expert (MRSE) on October 21 in Orlando, FL.

The exams test candidates on their knowledge of underlying MR safety concepts, as well as their ability to apply this knowledge to maximize the accessibility of MR examinations to real-world clinical and research situations. Areas examined include static magnetic fields, gradient magnetic fields, radiofrequency energies, contrast agents, and bioeffects.
