FDA clears NeoCoil's MRI audio system

NeoCoil has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its new standalone wireless MRI audio system.

The patient communication and entertainment system is specifically designed to work in the MRI environment, NeoCoil said. The wireless headphones eliminate the need to be attached to long plastic tubes, and patients can listen to customized music in addition to being able to hear the technologist more clearly.

A directional microphone enables two-way communication between the patient and technologist during the MRI scan, according to the company. There is also a "push-to-talk" feature to interrupt the music stream for communication.

They system also includes a wireless handheld alert that allows patients to signal the technologist without having to speak.
