Siemens gets FDA OK for Prisma MRI scanner

Siemens Healthcare has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Magnetom Prisma 3-tesla MRI scanner.

The whole-body scanning system features XR gradients, which combine a gradient strength of 80 mT/m with a 200 T/m/sec slew rate, according to the company.

The scanner also has Siemens' Dot (Day optimizing throughput) engines for enhanced consistency in research applications and clinical work. The Dot engine is designed to provide automation and reproducibility in investigations across subjects, time points, and institutions for longitudinal studies and multisite research projects, Siemens said.

Siemens will offer onsite upgrades for Magnetom Prisma to customers who have already installed the 3-tesla Magnetom Trio with Tim (Total imaging matrix) technology.
