MILabs touts new SPECT system

Preclinical imaging developer MILabs plans to highlight initial images from its new SPECT system, G-SPECT, at the upcoming Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) meeting in Baltimore.

G-SPECT increases brain scanning speeds and offers resolution of less than 3 mm. In contrast to traditional SPECT devices, G-SPECT's detectors do not rotate, which reduces exam time as well as wear and tear on the equipment, MILabs said. Finally, the technology is relatively inexpensive compared to PET technology.

MILabs is currently preparing premarket approval materials to submit to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the device, according to the firm.
