Shine to supply GE with Mo-99

Medical isotope firm Shine Medical Technologies has inked a long-term agreement with GE Healthcare to supply it with molybdenum-99 (Mo-99).

Under terms of the agreement, Shine will provide the isotope to GE Healthcare on a regular basis once its Janesville, WI, facility becomes operational in 2015.

Canada has announced its intention to discontinue Mo-99 production at the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor at Chalk River Laboratories in Ontario in 2016. This reactor has been the only large-scale producer of medical isotopes in the Western Hemisphere, according to Shine.

The deal is the first major supply agreement with a U.S.-based producer of the isotope, Shine said.
