SNMMI announces fellowship winners

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) has announced the three recipients of the 2012-2014 SNMMI Wagner-Torizuka Fellowship.

The two-year fellowship, which is designed to provide extensive training and experience in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging for Japanese physicians in the early stages of their careers, includes a $24,000 annual stipend.

The winners are Dr. Satoshi Takeuchi, PhD, of Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine in Sapporo; Dr. Shigetoshi Takaya, PhD, of Kyoto University Radioisotope Research Center in Kyoto; and Dr. Takashi Kato, of Gifu Prefectural General Medical Center in Gifu.

Takeuchi is conducting research at MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas under the supervision of advisor Dr. Homer Macapinlac.

Takaya, whose major fields of interest are neurology and radiology, is studying at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging under the supervision of advisor Dr. Steven Stufflebeam.

Kato, whose research focus is in cardiology, is working at Brigham and Women's Hospital under the supervision of advisor Dr. Marcelo DiCarli.
