GE shows new PET/CT, nets OK for SPECT unit

SAN ANTONIO - GE Healthcare last week received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its Discovery NM630 SPECT scanner, the company announced at this week's Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM) meeting.

Discovery NM630 features a 70-cm bore and a table capable of handling patients as heavy as 500 lb. It also has imaging protocols that enable users to either reduce radiation dose by as much as 50% or perform scans in less time without adversely affecting image quality.

Discovery NM630 can also be upgraded onsite with a CT scanner to become a Discovery NM/CT 670 SPECT/CT unit.

Also at the SNM show, GE unveiled its new Optima PET/CT 560 scanner. The system offers a full 2-m scan range for applications such as skin and bone imaging. The system can complete a full head-to-toe scan in one pass and save up to 15 minutes per exam by eliminating patient repositioning.

Optima PET/CT 560 is available in eight-slice or 16-slice configurations and can be operated as a standalone CT scanner.
