Zecotek reports PET milestone in China

Photonic technologies developer Zecotek Photonics said a major manufacturer in China has assembled its first high-resolution PET scanner for testing using Zecotek scintillation crystals.

The manufacturer has also placed an order for crystals to build a second unit, Zecotek said.

The OEM, which was not named pending the conclusion of a contract, chose Zecotek's patented lutetium fine silicate (LFS) scintillation crystals for its new line of PET scanners.

In March, Zecotek signed an agreement with the manufacturer regarding the sale of LFS crystals for its new line of medical scanners. The company is projecting the installation of five scanners by the end of this year and more than 200 scanners within five years as clinics and hospitals across China buy the product.
